PWINSIDER Q & A: TAMMY "SUNNY" SYTCH IN THE HALL OF FAME, HEYMAN AND THE ECW RESTART, STUPID STORIES, THE FUTURE OF DX AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2007-04-11 10:00:00

Wasn't Aretha Franklin supposed to be inducted into  the Celebrity Wing of the Hall of Fame? Am I wrong? Did I miss it?  Did she back out?

No, she wasn't.  She was signed to come in and sing, which she did.  That was all she was signed to do.

Do you see DX continuing on after HHH returns, or do you think he'll turn heel again. He has a habit of turning pretty quick whenever he's off for a few months.

At this point, I think it will continue, if only briefly, for a few reasons.  The plan before he got hurt was for him to wrestle John Cena as a babyface at Mania.  I think they will still do that program eventually when he comes back.  Plus, there is still a lot of money to be made with DX.  Their merchandise is a top seller for WWE and given that H will be coming back from serious injury and is nearing 40 years old, I think it makes total sense to play him as a babyface and take the easy money, at least at first.

How long it will continue, that is another question.  Shawn Michaels had come out to the DX music every night until Monday, when he came out to his own.  Does that mean HHH will come back and he and Shawn will have a program before he gets to the belt?  I don't know, but that would make perfect sense to me.  Then, after H beats Shawn, you can put him in there with Cena.

Do you ever see WWE inducting Tammy Lynn "Sunny" Sytch on the Hall of fame. I think she deserves it, even though her time on top was short. During that short time she reached heights of popularity never seen before, and arguably never seen since for a woman in wrestling.

Tammy was on top of the world for a few years, no doubt.  She was also a revolutionary force in the business because when she was at her best, she helped change the role of women in the biz.

But the Hall of Fame is not about a supernova that burns brightly and quickly dissipates to me.  Her career was just not long enough and her contributions don't warrant her getting in to "my" Hall.  Of course, the WWE Hall is a different matter altogether but given the way she left the company after getting quite the Hollywood attitude, I don't see them rushing to induct her.  I think hers will be looked back on as a short, strong run that was just not long enough to be considered an all time great.

My question is what was Paul Heyman told and what were his expectations when Vince told him he was going to restart ECW? Was he told he'd have autonomy?

Vince?  Give someone autonomy?  Come on, you know better than that!  Heyman was basically told that WWE was doing a third brand and that it would be called ECW.  They would play off of ECW's past to start it off.  The company's plan all along was to give the brand a  resemblance to the old ECW early on, then slowly make it a WWE style product.  We reported it, in-depth, on the Elite service at the time.  So, if we knew it, everyone involved knew it too.

I was just reading your recap of one of J.R.'s blogs, and saw the mention of the Lillian Garcia lesbian rumor. When you see some stupid rumor like that which was "reported" (using the term loosely) somewhere else, do you:
a) roll your eyes;
b) chuckle at how stupid it is;
or
c) get angry because someone may falsely accuse you of reporting it?

At times I roll my eyes at some of the stupid things that get "reported".  Like when Joey Mercury was released, some dolt "reported" that he attacked Stephanie McMahon backstage.  And, of course, some people believed it.

But, for the most part I think the people who do that stuff are cockroaches and really feel sorry for the people that read it and believe it, so I don't pay much attention to it.

As for your answer C, I don't ever worry about that.  What we report is on our site and if someone "credits" us with something we didn't report, I say that anyone that believes it what someone SAYS we said is an imbecile since they can freely check our site themselves.  If they are too lazy to do look at our site but look at a rip off site they are dopes.  It's that simple.  If I want to know what ESPN is reporting, I go to ESPN.  The same principle applies to us.

While on the subject, I get a lot of email from people asking me to confirm stories that NEWZ sites "report".  I tell them them same thing: Read our site.  I don't pay attention to what rip off sites run/make up.  I usually get emails saying, "I didn't see it on your site so I don't think it's true" to which I reply, "Then why are you reading the NEWZ site to begin with?"  I never get a good answer to that one.  Why anyone goes to the NEWZ sites instead of credible ones is beyond me, it really is.  Remember, if you don't trust what they say to the point you have to ask someone else if it's true, you are wasting your time going there folks.
