PWINSIDER Q & A: PUNK, DUSTY ON THE MIC, PPV REPLAY BUYS, SAPOLSKY IN WWE, KANE AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2007-04-02 10:00:00

Recently watched some RoH Shows and a couple of matches. What amazed me more then the mostly decent wrestling is the unbelievably great booking. Why is it that Gabe Sapolsky never got picked up by a major company? I understand he was part of the original ECW in the later years.

There are two main reasons why TNA and WWE haven't tried to pick up Gabe.  One is that they don't book the same kind of wrestling product that he does.  He goes more for sports (thank God) with much less emphasis on entertainment.  That is what makes ROH so unique and different.  What he does would never make it on the air with their companies because they approach the business differently than ROH does.  The other reason is that both companies have booking teams run by owners.  That means we will get their vision of the business in the product and what they see as pro wrestling is different than what Gabe books.  So, enjoy ROH and be thankful that it's there.

How is Kane viewed within the company? He is so talented but WWE never seems to push him to the top.  Glen Jacobs seems like a really good individual who is always willing to put over younger talent and he doesn't seem to have any ego. Is it a case of Glen Jacobs just being content where he is and wanting a younger star to have the limelight.

Kane is a guy who has made a lot of money and had a good run.  Like the Undertaker (of the past at least), he's a hard character to put a title on since he is booked as being indestructible.  How do you put a guy who is unbeatable in competitive matches?  It's tough.  He is certainly well-liked by management and definitely appreciated.

This question came to mind when reading a previous question about the Wellness Policy and wrestlers needing a certain look. Now, I know a lot of people, myself included, think CM Punk has a lot of potential and can be a top star for WWE in the future. However, to take himself to the next level, don't you think he needs tone up and put on a little muscle? I am not saying he needs to look like Batista or Cena, but a least when Michaels was champion he looked like a legitimate athlete.

Honestly, I think his look is fine. He is built similarly to Shawn Michaels and Edge, and they get good pushes.  Punk looks like an athlete and wrestles like one in the ring.  I really hate that the business has gotten to the point where people think a guy needs to look jacked beyond normal to come across as tough.  Watch some MMA and you will see how many guys that are built like Punk can tear your head off.

How do you feel about Dusty Rhodes one day announcing on WWE TV?

I would love it.  Dusty has always been great on the stick and passionate about the product.  I think he could be a great color guy if he wanted to be, especially since he's on the creative team and would know exactly what needs to get over in the matches and angles.

Great site! I check it out several times a day! I'm curious...how well does the WWE or TNA for that matter do with the replays of their PPVs? The cost of the PPVs are so expensive and even the replays are highly priced. Do they have a good buyrate of a PPV replays when you can just look up the results online if you missed the event? I think they might do better with the replays if they would make it more affordable to watch a PPV a few days after it took place.

I haven't seen the numbers in a while but with WWE a few years ago, less than 10% of the buys came from replays. In the case of TNA, the number is a little higher than WWE because they have a smaller fan base and a more internet savvy crowd, which often buy a replay when the show gets favorable reports online.
