I was just watching the last UFC and I saw Jenna Jameson with Tito Ortiz and it reminded me that she was a part of the old ECW. Like many fans, I wasn't able to see ECW at that time and I'm wondering what she did and how long was she there for? Getting Jenna Jameson for a show sounds like it might have cost Paul Heyman a pretty penny.
Jenna Jameson made two appearance on PPV for ECW. In the first, she was at ringside with the Dudley Boyz at Hardcore Heaven '97 and in the second, she appeared as a "reporter" at Living Dangerously '89, being kissed by Tommy Dreamer before his match with Louie Spicoli. She filmed a few backstage vignettes and that was it.
I read of the possibility of Melina defending the women's title against Ashley at Wrestlemania 23. Since Stone Cold Steve Austin is rumored to be special guest referee of the Vince McMahon-Donald Trump match, what is the possibility of the WWE hiring Nora Greenwald to be special guest referee of the women's title match? She has done that quite a few times herself.
Given that she's currently doing missionary work in Guatemala, I don't think Greenwald is likely to appear at Wrestlemania, but you never know.
What if Hulk's Hogan departure from WWE is just a work? They build up a struggle between Hogan an Vince, and then Trump chooses Hogan to represent him in Wrestlemania. That seems credible...doesn't?
As we've discussed in the Elite section of PWInsider.com, the departure isn't a storyline deal at all. Hogan and WWE failed to come to terms on a number of things, part of which was Hogan's unhappiness with merchandise royalties as he asked for an accounting of sales. As I've said a number of times, I have no doubt that WWE and Hogan will eventually come to terms of sorts but right now, they aren't on the same page. Until Hogan signs with another promotion, there's always a chance of a reunion.
I was watching the Andre the Giant DVD the other day. I noticed that at each venue there was a different ring and a different ring announcer (most notably the ring in Philadelphia that said "The Spectrum" on it). In the 70's and early 80's did the venues have to have their own rings and ring announcers before a show could be put on in that arena?
At the time, the WWWF utilized local promoters for each market, who would use their own ring and often their own announcers.
I read not long ago in one of three books, either the Bischoff book, Sex Lies and Headlocks, or the Death of WCW, that Marc Mero was not actually African American. According to the book, Mero used his natural dark complexion, tanning, and even skin creams to appear to have a darker complexion. My question is, if this is true, how could WCW book Mero the way they did, having him play a character who was based off of Little Richard? If that was the case, weren't they essentially doing a minstrel act on television? Shouldn't the backlash to that have been huge? How could a company that fired it's Vice-President for racial discrimination engage in development of a character who by his very nature was arguably racist?
Mero is actually Jewish and from New York City. The Johnny B. Badd character was the brainstorm of Dusty Rhodes, who noted that Mero looked very much like singer Little Richard. As far as why these things happen, if you've read any of those books about WCW, you'd pretty much agree with me that in many ways, the company was run like a train wreck with no rhyme or reason for some of the things that happened. It's probably a miracle that they didn't get nailed for it, because Mero likely would have seen his WCW career ended.
