PWINSIDER Q&A: TOTAL ELIMINATION, TNA IN CANADA, MANIA IN NEW ORLEANS AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2007-03-17 10:00:00

Since everything in wrestling is copied sooner or later, why is it that probably the coolest tag team finisher ever, has never been in WWE? The Eliminator's "Total Elimination" was right up there with the Canadian Destroyer, I was just wondering why nobody uses it anymore.

There's tag teams in WWE?  Seriously, I don't know why no one has copied that move yet.  As long as someone can pull off the high spin kick, then it would just be a matter of working out the timing.  I would think that Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Hass or MNM could pull off the move.  At the same time, I appreciate a team that comes up with their own move, rather than copying established finishers.

For several months on his Q/A page, Lance Storm, has been vocal about TNA Wrestling and how they are losing money and most recently, PPV buyrates have been low.  How does he gain this information? Most recently on your site, you stated TNA is a privately owned company and does not release PPV buy info and could only do so if they choose to. Does Lance get info that others don't? How does he know for a fact they are a profit making company as of today?

To answer your second question first, it is highly unlikely that TNA is making a profit.  When you factor in all of their costs, just estimating them, and then figuring that their only revenue sources are merchandise and PPV sales (they don't sell tickets to most shows, and don't have a big money TV deal with SpikeTV) there's no way they are pulling in money. As for the PPV buys, I would assume that Lance, like many of us, is going by what we hear from those within the company.  TNA never "officially" releases numbers, but obviously there is internal discussion of them, and that is probably what Storm is privy to, and referring to in his columns.

With TNA spreading its wings and putting on shows away from Florida, what are the chances of TNA appearing in Canada?

I could see it happening down the road, but first TNA should probably run more events in different U.S. states.  Running in Canada requires that work visa issues be hammered out, and I can't see TNA dealing with that where there are plenty of places in the U.S. for them to run in first.

Does TNA have a farm system where male and female wrestlers go through training for the possible chance of being called up to appear on TV? A similar system such as WWE's OVW and Deep South Wrestling?

Nope, TNA does not have any established farm system.  Obviously, there are wrestlers that are brought in and try to work their way up the ladder, and TNA looks at talent on the indy scene for future stars, but they don't have their own promotion to get talent from or to give guys a place to work while waiting to be "called up".

Some time ago, somebody suggested that the city of New Orleans be seriously considered to host Wrestlemania 24 next year. I think that would be wonderful. It would bring additional funds to a city working very hard to get back on its feet and the publicity for the WWE would be incredible. What are the chances that the WWE hold Wrestlemania 24 in the New Orleans Superdome next year?

No chance at all, as it has already been determined that Wrestlemania 24 will be held in Florida.  However, I could see WWE running a major PPV in New Orleans in the future (meaning probably 2009).  The positive press certainly would be worth it from WWE's perspective.
