What if Sting retired two years from now. Do you think that Vince and the WWE would put him in the Hall of Fame and, if Sting would go for it, wrestle a one night only match at Wrestlemania?
WWE has tried to sign Sting a few times over the years. Sting has always turned them down, often citing that he doesn't feel comfortable with WWE's racy content (and before you ask, no I can't explain why he thinks what Vince Russo writes is any better than what WWE does). So, on that end the ball is in his court as to whether he would ever work a match for them. As for him being in the Hall, I would say this: If they have a good business reason for it to happen, I could see it happening. If not, it probably won't. On merit, he is a Hall of Famer.
The old ECW used to always bill their titles (TV, Tag Team, & Heavyweight) as world championships, but to the best of my memory ECW never toured outside of the US. I vaguely recall hearing about Rob Van Dam and Sabu having an ECW tag team title match in Japan, but even that was well after the belts were billed as the world tag team titles. Other than that I don’t remember ECW even running shows in Canada. Did ECW run shows outside of the US that I wasn’t aware of, or was ECW’s billing the belts as world Championships purely a marketing gimmick?
Every company that views itself as a "national" company bills it's belts as a "world" title. You could call it a marketing gimmick but I just see it as good business that makes a lot of sense. I mean, Major League Baseball bills its championship as "The World Series" and they don't have teams outside of North America playing in it. "World Title" just sounds more impressive than "Title".
The only pure ECW show I remember being run outside of the US was the Mississauga, Ontario event in 2000, shortly before the company went out of business.
Rather than having two face-vs.-face title matches at Wrestlemania, do you think WWE will hotshot a heel turn for Batista? Of the 4 faces involved, he seems like the most likely to successfully turn heel. It could also allow the RAW team to defeat the Smackdown team at No Way Out, with Batista lay out out Undertaker for Cena or Michaels to pin.
Do I "think" they will turn Batista? I don't ever presume or assume where WWE creative is concerned since logic and common sense don't generally mean what they should with that group. But, I could see them doing it, or at least having Batista play somewhat heel for Mania because I think the fans will overwhelmingly be behind Taker and creative knows that. But, I don't think they want to have the guy turn full-fledged heel at this point because they like him in the face role and faces tend to bring in more fans. ÂÂÂÂÂ
I could also see them laying out two "faces with issues because they both want to come out of Mania with the title" matches too. They just have to be careful to not book them the same way and to keep the storylines of the bouts different. I think the best way to book John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels is to have them be adversarial, but respectful, and have them shake hands when the match is over. I think they should book Batista with a chip on his shoulder because "everyone thinks he is the underdog even though he is the champion".
I respect John Cena's work ethic as much as anyone, but he still doesn't do it for me. All his best matches have been gimmicked - v JBL 'I Quit', v Edge TLC, v Umaga Last Man Standing. My question is do you feel that Cena needs a gimmick match to cover his shortcomings or is he (or will he ever be) capable of a 5-star match in a normal 1-on-1? Not just a good match, but a great match is what I mean and figures crossed that HBK can get that from him at 'Mania.
To be honest, most guys in the business don't have "five star" matches in them. Only the best of the best can do those kinds of bouts. No matter how hard a lesser guy trains, he just can't be Benoit in his prime so it's unreasonable to expect that from him. Yes, I do think that Cena is a limited worker and he would probably tell you the same thing. I think WWE will get the best matches out of him when he's brawling because that is what plays to his strengths. As you mentioned, his match with Umaga was a great one. The one big plus with him is that he gives you what he has and you have to appreciate that. Also, he has more than enough charisma to make him a viable top guy.
I've been hearing jokes about Vince McMahon's hair for years. Does he really wear a piece, transplant, plugs, etc, or is it some kind of inside joke?
People have indeed been saying it for years because, I think, Vince's hair has a weird look to it (or more so did in the past). I don't know for sure either way but I have always thought it was his real hair, if for no other reason than if he was going to get a piece, he would have gotten something that looked better than that! Plus, he has had some pretty intense matches in the past and I can't believe that a rug wouldn't have come off one of those times if he had one.
