PWINSIDER Q&A: WWE BLURRING LOGOS, MOLLY HOLLY, VINCE MCMAHON AND MORE

I have been reading lately of the WWE working on their videos/DVDs for the purpose of blurring their trademarked name. With the state of technology as it is today, why doesn't the WWE simply remove the offending site altogether, instead of blurring it?

Well the technology is there to do something like that, the cost for WWE would be astronomical.  WWE isn't about to hire Industrial Light & Magic (and that's pretty much who they would need to do it) and pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to have the logos digitally removed from every moment of an event.  It is, as they say "cost prohibitive" to do it for WWE at this point, so they go with the cheaper methods of blurring the logo out.

When Wrestlemania 20 took place on March 14th 2004, one of the matches featured was for the WWE women's championship between then champion Victoria vs. the challenger Molly Holly.  A stipulation was that, if Molly Holly was unsuccessful in her bid to defeat Victoria, that she would have her head shaved completely bald. Victoria defeated Molly Holly to retain the women's champion and Molly was eventually shaved bald. The day after Wrestlemania 20, Molly Holly appeared on Raw wearing a wig. Why did the WWE give Molly a wig? Why didn't she simply come out and wrestle as she looked? Do you think the WWE dropped the ball by not giving a push to a young woman who was young, beautiful and a very skilled, technical wrestler, but bald as well? I think Kurt Angle was the only other wrestler who was bald along with her.

It actually was just WWE re-doing a classic storyline.  The heel loses his (or her) hair, then wears a wig, and the fans watch and wait for when a babyface pulls it off.  I don't think WWE dropped the ball, as Molly was a heel at that point, so it made no sense to push her in a positive light. The whole point of the head shaving was to "embarrass the heel".

Recently we've seen Vince doing some pretty strange things... openly telling the fans that he knows what they want better than they do, feuding with the ECW originals and Donald Trump etc... Do you think there are signs of Vince starting to crack up? It seems to me that his behavior has become unusual and at times self-destructive. In which case, I wonder how many shareholders would be happy investing in a company run by someone who has plainly lost the plot. Do you think this may be happening or is it just a case of Vince being the same old Vince?

I think it is just Vince being Vince (which is a little psycho at times).  If anyone is shocked to find out that Vince is an egomaniac, then I really have to wonder what industry they've been paying attention to in recent years.  Vince's direct insults towards the fans have intensified lately, but obviously he is trying to get as much "heel heat" as possible for the Donald Trump program, since many fans would probably just as soon boo both of them.

Are you guys ever truly satisfied? WWE isn't creative enough for you guys. TNA is becoming too much like WWE to you. WSX is too 'over-the-top'. What on Earth would your perfect fed be like?

UWF, 1986.  ECW, 1995.  World Class, 1984.  WWF, 1999. NWA, 1989.  Mix them all together, cut out all the bad stuff, and that will be my perfect federation.  In all seriousness, just because we point out both the positive and negative of promotions doesn't mean we're not satisfied.  It's just what we do.  We discuss and report on the world of wrestling, which will always have good and bad points.

What ever happened to Nora Greenwald?

While she has made sporadic independent appearances since leaving WWE, the former Molly Holly has spent more time doing charity work over the last year.  She also invested her money well, and has stated that she doesn't plan to return to the ring on a full-time basis.
