PWINSIDER Q & A: BISCHOFF AND FLAIR, SUING WWE, THE OLD ECW, ARN AS WORLD CHAMP AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2007-02-07 10:53:00

I wanted to know the story about Ric Flair and Eric Bischoff.  Are they friends now? I heard back then in WCW they never got along.

Well, they didn't get along in WCW because Bischoff was enamored with Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, which left Flair the odd man out.  I don't know what their exact relationship is like now.  I do know that they were largely civil to each other when they worked together in WWE.

Would it be within wrestlers and workers rights to file claims of discrimination against WWE for such things such as being released or de-pushed if they refuse to change there look, fitness or refuse to bulk up or get a boob job or decline against anything that goes against the moral or religious standing?

I would wish them good luck with that because I think it would be a waste of their time to do so.  For one thing, they are independent contractors, not employees.  That means that technically, they are hired to do a certain role.  WWE could argue that the role in question requires the enhancements you listed above.  They could also argue that the de-push was due to the limited period of time that the worker's role was set to run.  I don't see a worker being successful at all if they tried to make those claims against WWE, no matter how true they may actually be.

This question may come up a lot, and probably speaks to the eternal (naive?) hope of wrestling fans... With Vince apparently feuding with "ECW Originals" are we seeing the start of a feud where the originals 'take back their show'? Has Vince realized he needs to let ECW have it's own identity and this is his way to bring that about?

Uh, no.  Vince hasn't realized that and he has no intention to turn WWECW into a promotion that is similar to the original ECW.  He wants it to be be a third WWE brand.  He also doesn't want his talent working a style that could lead to injuries, which the old ECW style certainly did.

In previous questions about the status of Val Venis, you’ve mentioned that since he always seems to survive the roster purges, that management must like him, see him as valuable etc... But my question is, if they like him so much, why is it the only role they see fit for him to play is as cannon fodder for the other wrestlers on the Raw? He’s got the physique, he’s got the promo skills and from what I remember from the last time I’ve seen him actually wrestle a competitive match (which, admittedly would a long, long time ago), he’s actually above average in the ring. So what gives?

I would love to give you an answer here but trying to explain the thought process of the creative team isn't easy.  Honestly though, while I see Val as a solid worker, he's also a stale worker who ran the porn star gimmick into the ground.  His best chance to get over again would be as a new character.

Did any of the promoters Arn Anderson wrestled for, ever considered him for a run as a World Champion?

I don't ever remember anyone considering Arn to be a World Champ.  I think it came to to his look and the fact that while he came across as a tough guy, he never appeared larger than life and certainly wasn't ever overly flashy.
