PWINSIDER Q&A: ROYAL RUMBLE ANTHOLOGY, BRIAN LEE IN WWF AND ECW, LASHLEY'S WEAKEST TRAIT & MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2007-02-06 14:43:00

The Royal Rumble Anthology is coming out next month but will it include the USA Network special? Is it going to feature the same blurring and editing that the Wrestlemania Anthology did?

The Anthology set, which you can order from our friends at www.Highspots.com, will indeed feature the original 1988 Royal Rumble from the USA Network. It will also, sadly, feature the same blurs and musical editing that brought the Mania Anthology down a notch in many fans' eyes. The reality is that they are always going to have these things on older footage due to rights issues.

Is Brian Lee on the new ECW DVD also Chainz from WWF?

Yes, Primetime Brian Lee, who appears on the ECW Extreme Rules DVD vs. Tommy Dreamer was Chainz in the Disciples of Apocalypse as well as the evil "fake" Undertaker managed by Ted DiBiase.

I've noticed on some PWInsider posts that you are embedding YouTube videos. Is there a certain decision behind this and is it only for certain promotions?

No, not at all. Once I realized how easy it was to embed the videos, it made sense to post them and provide them for those who may be interested in watching them. As we've been made aware of videos from TNA, ROH, JAPW, 2CW and other groups, we've embedded them when it made sense. It had nothing to do with which promotion it was, but simply that we were made aware of the footage and since it's something extra for readers to sample if they choose, there's no real downside to it. Anything that adds to the overall experience of visiting PWInsider is something we want to include regularly.

When Hulk Hogan had Vince McMahon's secretary on Bubba the Love Sponge without her consent, wasn't that against the law? How could WWE not be furious he gave out privileged information?

I'm not sure what the FCC regulations are or whether satellite radio would be covered under it, but Bubba's show did edit the segment out of its replays. WWE was upset over it but like many other instances, Hogan and WWE will be angry at each other and it will quickly settle down since they can make money together.

Does WWE realize that Bobby Lashley is a terrible promo?

It's hard to say. Lashley's promos are absolutely the weakest link in his armor and you start to wonder what they see as a positive when he's put into a position to talk. Much like Sabu, promos take away from Lashley's aura, so it would make sense to give him a mouthpiece. Whether the company will ever do that, we'll see. There aren't many babyface managers out there at this point.
