My question is in regards to Best Of DVD compilations: I imagine that most wrestlers on the indy who sell their own best of's off of their own website decide which matches go on the disc(s) but for WWE or TNA do the wrestlers have any say on which matches are included or does the final say lie with the company?
As always with WWE, the final say lies with the company but the wrestlers do have input with the projects. I remember for Ric Flair's DVD, he wanted a few matches on there from his WCW days. The problem was, while WWE had all the footage, they couldn't find the tapes of the bouts because they hadn't organized all the footage yet! But yes, the workers do have input into their projects.
So with Triple H out indefinitely with another possible quad tear, do you think this will be the end of the VKM gimmick in TNA or do you think they will just continue to focus on Michaels and Vinny Mac?
TNA seems committed to doing the VKM gimmick to me so I don't see why they would let an injury to HHH stop them. They like messing with WWE so I see them continuing to do it.
Hey, PWInsider Elite Member here, let me first say that the elite section is well worth the fee, I highly recommend it to anyone still on the basic site. My question is about TNA’s handling of Christian Cage. I know that he is in the championship picture and all that, but as a new viewer of TNA (after the Angle signing) I think that Cage is being booked poorly. It just seems as if he is being booked as a punk and I just can’t take him seriously in a match. It looks like his offense on guys like Sting and Abyss have no effect on them, and he can only win if Tomko interferes (which is every match and it is getting a little annoying). Do you think they are booking him properly, or are you like me and don’t think that he is a legitimate title contender even though he is in a championship match? Also this whole stupid Abyss secret storyline is so WWE it’s not even funny. How can they possibly think it’s a good idea to go with that storyline? They are missing their chance to separate themselves and build themselves as a true competitor to WWE.
I think that Christian was on the cusp of showing what he could do on top back in WWE when he was doing promos with Vince McMahon. WWE then dropped the promo and Christian left for TNA when his contract ran out. I think they booked Christian a lot more seriously, as a face when he came in, and now they are trying to further develop his character. Like you, I did like him when he was booked as being stronger as compared to how he is now.
As for the booking, TNA is in a position where they have to entertain their fans, but they also have a TV network to keep happy. Spike has certain expectations and they communicate them to TNA. That is why we have Kevin Nash on the show. I think meeting those expectations, at least in part, is why they brought back Vince Russo. I would love to see a company go "old school" against WWE, just to show that pushing the wrestling end of the business can indeed be a big draw, but it's probably not going to happen.
Do you think having many stables of three or more people on a wrestling show helps it or hurts it? And do you think either WWE or TNA could benefit from having more stables on their shows?
It depends on the stable. If it's guys that the fans care about, that are booked well and are over, I like it. If it's not all those things, it doesn't really matter.
What does Vince see in The Great Khali? Yes, he's big and tall. We get that. But you had mentioned previously that management has already realized that he has the workrate of epic Giant Gonzalez proportions. The fans certainly don't care for him. But yet he's being moved to RAW to provide more *star power.* Huh? When the Undertaker, arguably the most well-respected locker room leader, couldn't pull a good match out of him, how could anyone expect Tommy Dreamer or John Cena to do the same? Are they stuck with a huge contract or something? Has Vince not realized he made a mistake here? WWE's has released big men with much more talent.
Vince loves his look. He loves that he's a monster. And at his core, if all things are equal and Vince has a chance to push a big guy, whether he can work or not, he generally does. It's, sadly, that simple.
