PWINSIDER Q&A: PUTTING THE CM IN PUNK, THE INVISIBLE CHUCK PALUMBO, A-TRAIN BACK IN WWE?, LANGUAGE BARRIERS IN THE RING & MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2007-01-07 09:00:00

I know CM Punk has a tendency to lie about what the initials 'CM' mean but I thought he had cleared that up in a recent interview (I think it was on IGN) where he said it meant 'chick magnet'. Then the other day I looked at an article you guys linked to and he says it's a reference to C.M. Burns from The Simpsons! What do you actually think it stands for?

I think at this point, Punk is so tired of where the initials are derived from that he's making up reasons to entertain himself!

What are the chances of seeing Matt Bloom ("A-Train" or "Giant Bernard" in Japan) back in the WWE?  I thought he did really well during his A-Train run and was starting to look like a new age "Vader" type wrestler.  Besides the "Shave your back" chants, he was pretty over as a heel monster.  Hell, he even shaved his back in Japan.  Do you see him back sometime soon?

It's absolutely a possibility down the line.  WWE has brought back performers with far less of an upside and Bloom has shown some good work in New Japan.  I wouldn't surprised in the least to see the company bring him back down the line, either as A-Train or another persona.

What is the status of Chuck Palumbo?  I know the WWE resigned him a few months back and have read that he has wrestled on a few SmackDown house shows since then.  My question is, what are they doing with him?  I don't read about him being DSW or OVW, is this just another case of a wrestler waiting for a "gimmick"?  I personally think Palumbo was really starting to mold into a pretty good wrestler towards the end of FBI gimmick and the short lived "Custom Chucky P" gimmick.

Chuck Palumbo is currently signed, so unless there is a health issue that hasn't come to light, he's likely on payroll and waiting to be directed as to when he'll be getting a new persona, being sent to developmental, being called up, etc.  It's always possible he'll end up back in the FBI for ECW, given the way World Wrestling Entertainment has taken to sending talents with no real place on the other brands there.

At the end of Halloween Havoc '96, Roddy  Piper cuts a fantastic shoot/worked promo on Hogan after his title math with Savage, but unfortunately he goes a little long and the pay per view goes off the air while Piper's still talking. Are there any written reports that mention what he said when they went off the air?

I don't recall anything specific, but Hogan and Piper went back and forth to build to their Starrcade '96 PPV bout.

How do wrestlers who don't speak the same language work together? Isn't
it a bit dangerous if your opponent can't tell you what he's doing?

While there may be a language barrier, the basic physical nature of the business is the same no matter the style so they can feel each other out.  Plus, many of the names for the maneuvers (bodyslam, hiptoss, etc.) have the same name, especially in Japan since the business was imported from the United States.  There's no perfect science for it, but it's not as difficult (in theory) then you might think.
