PWINSIDER Q & A: CENA VS. ANGLE, TRIBUTE BROADCASTS, DOES USA STILL WANT WWE, K FED-STREET CRED AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2007-01-01 10:00:00

How does appearing on Raw affect K-fed’s street cred?

Since he never had any to begin with, it doesn't affect him at all!  Come on, K Fed?  Street Cred?  When his only claim to fame was marrying a pop star?  The sad thing about him is his best career path may actually be to stay in wrestling.  That says a lot.

Who is a better wrestler overall Kurt Angle or John Cena?

It all depends on what your criteria is really.  From a pure, in-ring standpoint, it's not even close.  Obviously, Angle is the far better worker in the ring, the better technician.   Both men work hard to have the best match that they can.  Angle's work is better because, as I said above, he's a better technician.  But, there is more to being a pro wrestler than just wrestling. There is also the charisma aspect and the ability to sell tickets and be "a top guy".  Right now, Cena has that aspect over Angle.  In a way, you could make the comparison to the 80s when Ric Flair was the best guy in the ring and Hulk Hogan drew the most money.  So, it just depends what way you look at the business and what criteria you are using.

Hey guys. I just watched the WWE Tribute to the Troops. One, I am touched and proud of our service men and women. Two, I am proud of the WWE stars for volunteering their time to perform. My question...since the event is on a volunteer basis, if a Superstar turns down the offer, do you think any repercussions looms, i.e., RVD? Also, do you think the television audience and our service men and women would see a title change in future Tribute telecasts?

Officially, WWE would say that the trip is voluntary and there are no repercussions to those who don't want to go.  Behind the scenes, let's just say that the wrestlers question whether that is true or not.

For RVD, what else can they really do to him at this point?  They have destroyed the brand he loved so other than having him dress up in a chicken outfit, what can they do, really?

I don't think that changing the belt is the point of the Tribute show, plus it doesn't make sense financially.  The show always down 20 to 30% in the ratings so moving the strap there just doesn't make sense.  I think they do plenty for the troops just by being there and doing a show.  I like the format that they use now and think that is how they should continue.

Does USA care about WWE Raw's Ratings? I mean it looks like that Raw gets an average of around a 3.4 and a 3.7 with a 4 share sometimes within the show. I know that they are competing with Monday Night Football on ESPN, but that seems more like an excuse that a reason why Raw's ratings aren't as good as they used to be? I know that Raw will probably never get the ratings it used to, but is USA concerned about Raw Ratings especially since that Raw hasn't been as good as it used to be?

USA is very happy with Raw's numbers.  Would they love 5s?  Sure, but they saw where the numbers were when WWE was on Spike and they know that they have dropped from their glory years.  They weren't expecting the ratings that they got before WWE left them in 2000.

One of the main reasons that USA wanted WWE programming is to help them win the battle to be the most watched cable network in prime time and WWE has, repeatedly, held up their end.  So, USA is very happy with the WWE product and what it brings to the table.  At the end of the day, what USA pays WWE for Raw is a bargain.

What value does TNA see in Kevin Nash? Sure, he has name value. Yes, he can be quite entertaining. But he is really offering nothing to the product. I know he’s supposed to be “getting over the X Division.” But he’s not. The X Division was over when it was about great young athletes showcasing their phenomenal skills in the ring.

I agree that he's not offering much to the product but the word we have gotten is that Nash is on the TNA show because Spike TV wants him there.  They have ideas to do some other programming on the network with Nash and according to a few company sources, that is the primary reason he is on TNA's shows.  Again, I am with you.  I don't think he should be anywhere near the X Division but business is business.
