My question is regarding what happens when Jim Ross decides to hang up his cowboy hat. I remember being very surprised to see him appear at the Wrestlemania when he made his WWF debut. When he decides to retire, what do you think the chances are that WWE would try to grab Mike Tenay from TNA? Personally I think he is the best man in announcing after Ross right now, and you have to wonder if Joey Styles heart would be in announcing on Raw. Tenay could give a big shot in the arm to the "wrestling" aspect of WWE.
I think the world of Mike Tenay as an announcer, but WWF could have picked him up after WCW closed up and didn't, plus, as dumb as this sounds, his age and appearance would be a liability in WWE's eyes as they prefer young looking announcers. The only reason they have failed at replacing Jim Ross in every attempt is that there is no one good enough to touch his awesome work on the mic and the only person close, Joey Styles, had his work emasculated to the point that he wasn't able to come close to Ross anymore.
With all the nominations and polls taking place as the year 2006 comes to an end: Shouldn't Triple H receive an award or at least credit for not getting the WWE Heavyweight- or WWE World Heavyweight Title since April 2005???
I agree he should get credit, but at the same time, he doesn't need the championship. I do believe he doesn't get the credit he deserves for trying to make other stars and bringing them up a level, including Batista and John Cena, but by the same token, there are a number he deserves the blame for helping to hold back.
Who was #1 in merchandise sales in 2006? Maybe Rey Mysterio over DX???
WWE doesn't release figures on merchandise, but my guess is the top three are John Cena, DX, and Rey Misterio, in that order.
I don't see WWE rewarding Jeff Hardy with a Wrestlemania main event so soon. Edge deserved the main event last year and has continued on his tear. I'm hopeful that he'll end up in the top picture. I really think Michaels vs. Hardy could be a fun one-time attraction and Wrestlemania would be a good choice to showcase it, but I haven't heard any rumblings of plans for either at this point.
What's it going to take for the fans to get behind Cena? I can understand why they crapped on him at the start -- he was green as grass and being crammed down our throats. But over time I think he's become one of the best entertainers in WWE, yet a portion of the audience still hates him. they obviously missed the boat on a heel turn, so what are their other options?
I agree that a lot of smart fans overlook Cena's work ethic and entertainment level because he's "not a good worker" but I truly believe a lot of the rejection he gets from the male fan base is the fact that he's a good looking guy that girls go nuts over, so men try to drown it out. The Rock N' Roll Express, among other heartthrob acts in the past, had similar things happen, although not at this grand a scale. As for what it's going to take, I don't know. Cena works beyond his in-ring abilities and has had some great matches, especially with Edge. He works an insane schedule to promote the company and by all accounts, hasn't fallen into the superstar ego that comes with the power of his position. He's said to be a really down to earth guy who doesn't blow off fans or charitable events he can help in, so if none of that is going to stop fans from accepting him, I don't know if that portion of the fan base ever will. Like a lot of other top names, he gets a lot more criticism then I think he deserves.
