PWINSIDER Q&A: BIG SHOW IN ECW, NECRO BUTCHER, THE BIGGEST MAIN EVENT IN SMACKDOWN HISTORY AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2006-12-17 10:43:00

I was wondering your opinion on the Necro Butcher. He is feared and revered by fans and wrestlers alike and is one of the most in demand wrestlers on the indy scene. His deathmatches are legendary but at the price of his body. He's also shown that he can have competitive brawls and straight matches with guys like Samoa Joe and Low Ki. Mick Foley is the watermark for a hardcore wrestler but where do you think the Butcher stacks up with the best extreme, ultraviolent, deathmatch, etc. brawlers? Also, in his early 30's do you see him continuing this brutal style for much longer? Lord knows we'll never see him in WWE but do you think he will go down as one of the great, very in demand, indy stars that gave his all every night but never really got national exposure?

I don't know that Necro Butcher is feared, but he's absolutely respected and with good reason. He's one hell of a brawler and takes insane levels of abuse in the ring. It's impossible to say how much longer he'd continue to work the style as the only thing you can predict is that it will take its toll physically, but with so many variables involved, you can never say when that is or what might cause a massive injury. Necro is a really intelligent person and could evolve past the Death Match style. In comparison to Foley, Necro has a really unique personality and charisma, but I don't think even he would think its comparable to Foley.

How come every time I see a Smackdown main event it's the 'biggest main event in the history of Smackdown'?

It's just something WWE does to build hype and suspense for the episode. I do believe it's overdone, but that's wrestling!

Hey for Christmas, my fiance has bought me the classic winged championship belt (held by Hogan, warrior, Bret, Michaels etc) My question is what do think is the best designed heavyweight belt of all time?

I am always partial to the big "gold belt" that Ric Flair wore during the heyday of the National Wrestling Alliance as it truly looked like an amazing prize that you could believe wrestlers were competing for.

Is the Big Show really done with WWE? Or is he just resting? Also, what are your thoughts of his last run in ECW? Do you think he redeemed himself?

Big Show's contract is taking time off but his contract is set to expire in February. He's physically hurting but there's a chance that once he gets outside the WWE bubble, he may realize he likes taking a break and living a "normal" lifestyle as opposed to always being on the road. I do think that Show's ECW title run was the highlight of his WWE career as he went above and beyond the call of duty to help establish ECW, doing much more physical and harder hitting matches then he needed to do. He was already making a huge salary and would have without taking thumbtack bumps and blading, but did so to help cement ECW. That's hardcore in my book.

Whatever happened to that WWE.com makeover Michael Cole said he was going to make?

There are plans to give the official WWE site a makeover of sorts sometime in the next month, including a premium section.
