PWINSIDER Q&A: ANGLE VS. BENOIT, HULK HOGAN, RING OF HONOR AND MORE

If I were to purchase some ROH DVDs which ones would you suggest?

I seem to get this question a lot.  My personal feeling is start with Samoa Joe vs. Kenta Kobashi and the three match series with Samoa Joe vs. CM Punk.  After that, start with their most recent shows and work your way back.

I am a history student, and am wanting to write a popular culture paper on how wrestling impacted society (probably to focus on the Hulkamania era I would think).  I was wondering if you know any books that may help me out?

Honestly, I would pick up Hulk Hogan's book.  However, I would not take anything he says in that book as gospel.  Instead, I would use the information in that book as a starting point, and then do research into the "real story" behind the events in the 80's.

Many fans and insiders alike have called the Angle vs. Benoit match at Royal Rumble 2003 their best encounter. I do agree partially that it was an awesome match, but I really think their bout at Unforgiven in 2002 was a much better wrestling match. Why is the one at the RR so much higher-up on the list than their previous match? Was it the fact that it was a clean finish, or because it had something that the other ones didn't? (As in, the WWE Championship on the line)

I think the lack of a clean finish in Unforgiven 2002 may have had something to do with it, but more likely, I think the Royal Rumble match was simply seen by many as being a superior bout, and it was also on a bigger event.

How is Hulk Hogan seen backstage now within the WWE? Does he still have the same  power he used to and is he paid top card status?

Hogan has power over one very important thing, and that is his stuff.  Hogan has complete control of his storylines and matches, and that's all that matters to him.  Well, that and his agreement with Vince McMahon that he always gets paid the same as the highest paid performer on the show, regardless of his place on the card.  In other words, if you see Hogan on a show, no matter where his match is, Hogan is taking home the same payday as the guys in the main event.

Just wondering what is Mark Henry's status with WWE and how he is doing in his recovery from his injury.

Henry had surgery to repair his torn patella tendon and fractured patella in July.  I haven't heard any updates on his condition, but given the nature of the injury, it will probably be some time before he can seriously consider training the leg.  He is still under a WWE deal at this time.  I would say that WWE won't release him while he is out hurt, but they did drop Test while he was recuperating from neck surgery.
