PWINSIDER Q&A: STING'S UNIQUE PLACE IN HISTORY, TEDDY HART IN WWE, CM PUNK'S BACKGROUND AND MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2006-11-19 09:00:00

I remember a WWF jobber who used to wear a beret to the ring and was a french revolutionary. My friends all tell me I've imagined this but I am sure I watched him growing up. Any idea who this person was?

While an overactive imagination may have created the French revolutionary part, I think you are remembering Frenchy Martin, who managed and did some enhancement work for WWF in the 1980s. I believe he may have also had a short-lived interview segment on some of the WWF syndicated programming that broadcast into French speaking markets. Martin lives in Canada now.

I was reading a story on the WCW Tag Team championships and a reference was made to the Fabulous Freebirds having negative days on their championship run. Can you explain that?

In 1991, The Freebirds defeated Doom for the WCW Tag Team championships. They held the belts for several days technically, but in actuality, had already lost the belts to the Steiners, which was taped days before the Freebirds had ever won the championships.

Is Sting the only person to hold the NWA title before and after WCW ended?

To the best of knowledge, yes, Sting is the only man to win the NWA title before and after the WCW championship was created.

Who trained CM Punk?

CM Punk was originally trained by ROH and Midwestern independent star Ace Steel, although a lot of his seasoning could be credited to the insane level of touring he did while working and breaking into the independent wrestling scene.

With all the other Hart family kids getting WWE tryouts and deals, what about Teddy Hart?

Teddy Hart is under contract to the MTV Wrestling Society X project, which is scheduled to air its first TV episodes in 2007. Hart has a long standing...let's say, unique, series of events and actions surrounding his career, which has unfortunately hurt him, at least for now, in terms of getting a WWE deal, but I do think he's so talented that at some point, they'll give him a shot.
