PWINSIDER Q & A: CENA'S REACTION TO THE MARINE'S SUCCESS OR LACK THEREOF, CYBER SUNDAY, THE VALUE OF K FED, TNA-NWA TITLE, WWE EYEING RING OF HONOR AN

By Dave Scherer on 2006-10-25 11:24:00

I was irked when I heard K-Fed was going to appear on RAW, but after thinking about it I thought it was a smart move on the WWE's part but putting someone as hatable as K-Fed to work as an antagonist for John Cena, who has had trouble getting the fans behind him. Would you agree? Also, who would/could you like to see play the antagonist for John Cena in order to get the fans to cheer him?

K Fed is definitely a guy that almost everyone will cheer Cena against, that's for sure, so from that point of view, your point is a good one.  Part of the problem with the way WWE is booked right now, and how the business is overall, is that no one really has serious (intended) heel heat anymore.  Some guys have what we called "X Pac heat" in the past, which means that they just want the guy off of their screen, but that isn't the same thing.  At this point, Cena will just have to be what he is.  Some will love him, some will hate him, and he will just keep doing his thing like a pro.

As for K Fed, WWE got a lot of pub off of his appearance last week.  It died down big time this week as the shock value wore off and the tabloids didn't cover it this week.  So, it looks like the bloom is off the rose for him.

I have a question about the NWA world title and TNA. I always respected the NWA title for its history & for those that have held it, but I think its time to make it a little bigger & more desiring. Don't you think that if TNA is going to stick with the NWA title that they should make a new & more modern looking version?

Nope, I don't think that at all.  I have always liked the look of the NWA Title and while I feel at this point TNA is far more important than any remnant of a now almost-dead organization, the one appealing thing about the belt is the way that it looks.

Hello. I am a new Elite Member of the site. I was skeptical about paying for wrestling news but I admit, I was wrong and its worth every penny. Anyways, my question is, do you know what John Cena's reaction has been to his movie 'The Marine' not performing too well? I can imagine he is disappointed but I'm wondering if they somehow explained it all away and rationalized it in McMahon-land.

Everyone I have spoken to about him has told me that Cena is very level-headed and realistic.  He doesn't get too high or too low and doesn't have unreal expectations.  He knew that as a pro wrestler, his movie would be a hard sell to the masses.  He also knew that it was the first big attempt at a movie by WWE and he takes that all into account.  Would he like to have a bigger box office?  Sure.  But he's also realistic and said to be very proud of the flick.

As for the Elite testimonial, thanks.  We like to think we are about more than just news on the Elite site.  We try to make our shows entertaining and fun as well.  Also, with the ad market as bad as it is right now, and as bad as it has ever been, the Elite revenue carries the site and, very frankly, keeps us in business.  So, if you are reading this and you love the site and what we do here, the best way to ensure we will be around for ever is to go Elite.  We truly appreciate it.  We are doing everything we can to make the content we currently have available free but it gets harder every day.

What does Vince and the people in power at the WWE think of Ring of Honor?

Vince would probably say publicly that he doesn't know anything about it but he is aware of it and the people in talent relations monitor the people who work there as we have seen with people working dark matches at WWE events and getting signed to developmental deals.  The company's general feeling is that they don't want the workers doing the kinds of matches in WWE that they do in ROH because they are concerned with injuries, so when people sign, they are "deprogrammed" and taught "the WWE way" before they are called up to the main roster.

As you all know Cyber Sunday is coming up and I was wondering do the fan polls on WWE legitimately decide what the setting of the match are (or whatever the choices are), I know the WWE try and push for people to vote for the outcome the company wants, but do the WWE actually use the poll votes to decide, or do they just make up their own number and pick whichever one they prefer.

They say that they do and I believe them because the way WWE polls are, they can easily be manipulated the company wanted to just by having their employees mass vote for the winner that they want.
