PWINSIDER Q & A: STEVE AUSTIN'S TOP GUY REFUSALS, FINDING RANDY SAVAGE, WHAT WOULD EDDY WANT, UNIFYING WWE'S TITLES, ECW'S NEXT PPV AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2006-10-18 10:14:00

Now that WWF/E has made the match with WWF/E (Raw) Champion John Cena vs. World (Smackdown) Champion King Booker vs. ECW Champion The Big Show to decide who is the greatest Champion among the 3 on Cyberspace Sunday, Why not go for it all and get it done right? Have a UNIFICATION TITLE MATCH between all 3 champions and have one wrestler become the UNDISPUTED WORLD Champion in the WWF/E and ECW? Smackdown is low on interest and talent and ECW gets only 1 hour to show off its talent!! I think at this point, They should have one wrestler become the undisputed champion and defend the belt on all three wrestling events. What do you think?

I think that would be the wrong reason to do it at this point.  If you make Booker or Show champ, they have to defend/appear on the other shows, which minimizes their value to their current brand.  If you have Cena win, he could appear on their shows but that just points out what everyone already thinks, that Raw is the superior brand.  I like the idea from a cross-promotion standpoint if the brands were more even, but since they aren't, I think it would do more harm than good.

I have a question regarding Steve Austin. With all due respect to him, since I am a huge fan of his and he is the one who got me interested in watching the WWF, I remember reports being printed right around the summer of 1999 of Austin being unwilling to work with and/or elevate Jeff Jarrett. At the same time, and I only remember hearing he had problems with HHH while in WWE. Was he justified in his actions and why isn't Austin criticized for this in the same way that Triple H is?

To answer your last question first, some have definitely criticized Austin for his "top guy" declarations.  He is a guy who walked out in the past when he didn't like what was booked for him (even though people understood that there was merit in why he did so).  So, he has been criticized in the past.

With Jarrett, he felt Jeff wasn't a "top talent" and that doing a program with him couldn't make him one and would only drag Austin himself down, so he vetoed it.  I have been told by numerous sources that there's a really good chance that there was also some lingering resentment there from the days when Austin worked for Jerry Jarrett's promotion and wasn't paid much while Jeff got a much larger payout and was pushed very hard.  As for HHH, numerous sources have told me that Austin never liked him or how he did business.  Austin is a straight-forward type (which is why he and Rock got along) and HHH is extremely savvy in being political.

Could you please tell me where the next ECW PPV is taking place?

December to Dismember will take place on December 3 at the Augusta-Richmond County Civic Center in Augusta, GA.

Does anyone know if Randy Savage is able to be contacted for personal appearances?

For the right price, he probably can be.  You can contact him at his website www.machoman.com.

Now that Smackdown is FINALLY beginning to get past the pathetic "This one's for Eddie" storyline (slowly but surely), do you think that Eddie would approve of the Rey/Chavo/Vicky storyline? I think he would. Even though Vicky could benefit from acting lessons, I think that it has a lot of potential to create a ton of heat for Chavo and some amazing high-flying matches between Chavo and Rey. What do you think?

I think I won't ever like whatever they do because of how it got to where it is now.  It's kind of like when judges kick out the results of an illegal search because it's the fruit of the poisonous tree. Also, I won't ever presume to think that I would know what Eddie would or wouldn't like.  All I know is that I have hated the exploitative nature of the storyline since it started and I feel the same way now.
