PWINSIDER Q&A: HOGAN VS. BULLDOG, TOP ROPE MOVES, MAD DOG AND MORE

By Buck Woodward on 2006-10-14 10:00:00

Answered on 10/14

I was just watching a promo for Glacier and was wondering if his character was based, or a knock off, of the Mortal Kombat video game character Sub-Zero.

Yeah, it is pretty obvious that Glacier and the whole "Blood Runs Cold" gimmick was a knock off of the popular video game.

Why does the referee count when someone climbs to the top of the ropes to use it? I mean if they can Irish whip them into it and use it, why not use it for an aerial maneuver? I understand if they use it as a weapon, like to choke an opponent, but I don't see how jumping off of the ropes can be an illegal move.

Wresting is supposed to take place within the ropes, not on them.  Thus, holds are broken when wrestlers are on the ropes, and if a wrestler chooses to get on the ropes, he has a count of five (a loooong count, usually) to get back in the ring, or he will be disqualified.

To the best of my knowledge, Hulk Hogan and the late British Bulldog never clashed in any type of match, but it is a match I would have enjoyed watching. When Bulldog joined WCW in 1998, do you think perhaps WCW should have promoted a British Bulldog/Hollywood Hogan match in England. WCW didn't really do as many international tours as WWE during the Monday Night Wars, but do you think that a Bulldog/Hogan match would have been a great main event for WCW?

Chalk it up as another mistake by WCW, as the match certainly would have drawn huge in the UK.  However, WCW didn't do much at all with Davey Boy during that 1998 run, as he seemed to basically just be there because he got out of his WWF deal after Montreal. Plus he ended up injuring his back during that run as well.

I was listening to Buck Woodward's Elite Hotline from 10/11 in which he discussed the WWE missing two opportunities. The first was not using Extreme Strip Poker to get over any of the actual wrestlers of the ECW brand and the second was not advertising Chris Benoit's return in order to increase the buyrate for No Mercy. I agree with Buck, but I think the WWE missed an even bigger opportunity that week during the Raw Family Reunion. When Shelton Benjamin came out and made an open challenge to any wrestler from any brand, don't you think the mystery opponent should have been CM Punk instead of Chris Benoit? Doesn't it make more sense to give a guy like Punk that kind of exposure in front of the largest television audience the WWE has had in weeks? I am a huge Benoit fan, but he is already as over as he is ever going to be, while CM Punk could have used that rub to leapfrog from the hot WWE/ECW rookie smarks know and love from ROH, to a superstar in the eyes of the casual fan.

I agree that it would have been a bigger rub for Punk to beat Benjamin, but at the same time, it is a bit early in Punk's push to have him going on other brands and beating talent.  I think WWE made the right move, as it stressed that Benoit was back, and hopefully got some fans to tune into Smackdown again.

In today's Q&A you mentioned a match where Shawn Michaels used Mad Dog Vachon's prosthetic leg. When did Mad Dog Vachon get a prosthetic leg and why?

Vachon lost his leg in 1987 when he was hit by a car while walking near his home in Iowa.
