Why is WWE reluctant to add a third member to DX?
There was talk when the gimmick first started of making it a group to elevate young talent via the association with the established members but WWE then decided to just make it a retro act for Triple H and Shawn Michaels. Why they decided to not use it to create new top talents, I don't know but I agree with you. I think they missed a good opportunity.
With Eric Bischoff appearing on this week's edition of Raw, do you think it could be the start of the nWo returning to WWE? Personally, I would like to see the nWo return and feud with DX.
Bischoff has been on TV for one reason, to push his new book. That isn't to say that it couldn't turn into something down the road, but that isn't the reason he is there now. As for a return of the nWo, I will pass on that and hope that WWE does too. It failed the last time WWE tried it because the fans wanted to cheer Hulk Hogan and didn't care about the rest of the group. Plus, the members are all older now and it's not like they were great tacticians in their prime. Scott Hall, the best worker of the three, hasn't wrestled in a while and has had his problems outside of the ring. Hogan would use his creative control if he were involved and it's not like Triple H or Shawn Michaels are in any hurry to do business with him. Kevin Nash has signed with TNA. Thankfully, the nWo gimmick seems like it will stay on the shelf, and that is a good thing.
I was recently thinking about ECW's upcoming December to Dismember PPV and wondering what you expect to main event the card. I was thinking a three way dance with Big Show, Rob Van Dam and CM Punk. Also do you expect a Raw/Smackdown presence on the card and how about an appearance by Terry Funk? Also, while I know that the WWE generally reserves it's hall of fame inductions for the night before Wrestlemania but wouldn't an ECW event be the perfect place for Funk to be inducted?
At this point, I have no idea what it will be. If WWE is going ahead with the talked about Hulk Hogan-Big Show match for next year's WrestleMania, he will probably have to win at the PPV so I wouldn't put him in there with RVD or Punk because I think they should be built up, not jobbed down. At this point, I would expect some outside presence on the card as a way to try and get fans of the other brands to buy the show, since ECW is the weakest of the three promotions right now. I haven't heard anything where Funk is concerned. Since it's not ECW any more, and WWE has made it clear that it's not, I don't think they really need the ECW legend at the shows at this point. I wouldn't induct Funk, or anyone, into the Hall of Fame there. I like the ceremony as it is and I think anyone who gets in deserves to be part of it.
I just read about someone proposing that the Sandman's entrance music be Mr. Sandman by the Chordettes. Why haven't they used Enter Sandman by Motorhead that was on the ECW cd. They already have most of the rights to ECW, and doesn't WWE already have a working relationship with Motorhead for HHH's themes?
Whoever proposed using Mr. Sandman should be spayed immediately. It's bad enough that they are here but they certainly should not be allowed to procreate. As for the Motorhead song, Vince McMahon made a conscious decision to use all new music so that the identities of the new ECW talents were all WWE created. To borrow from another Metallica song, sad, but true.
Before I ask my question, let me admit that I did not watch wrestling in the 80s during Hulk Hogan's early then-WWF glory days. I didn't get into wrestling until around the time Stone Cold came to popularity. That being said, I just don't understand why Hulk Hogan is/was so popular. I get that he gets the pops he does now because of the rareness of his appearances and the nostalgia factor, but I really don't understand how he ever got to be so big in the 80s.
He was in the right place, with the right amount of charisma and skill set, pushed by the right promoter, at the right time. Part of what makes his popularity hard to fathom for a newer fan is that wrestling business was so much different in the 80s than it was when you started watching in the late 90s. The time period is a major reason why Hogan got over the way he did. I think he would have still been a star if he came along today, but I don't know if he would have reached the heights that he did. He built his name in the 80s and a lot of long time fans love him to this day.
