PWINSIDER Q&A: MVP'S DEBUT, VETERAN DIVAS TRAINING THE NEW BREED, VINCE'S VISION OF ECW, MIKE ROTUNDA & MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2006-10-10 10:49:00

Back when they were shooting the SummerSlam commerical, it was reported that Batista and Booker T were in an actual fight. Then (I believe) it was reported that it was all just a shoot and it was to later set up a fued when Batista came back. What was the real truth? And either way, why didn't they just go ahead and use it as a way to bring him back?

It was a legitimate fight. If they were going to shoot an angle with it, they would have filmed the fight. The decision was made not to acknowledge it on camera, possibly because Booker T got the better end of it.

What is your thoughts after seeing MVP's debut at No Mercy? Personally, I think the gimmick is horrible and he was over hyped. MVP's ring attire resembled that of Flash Funk.

I didn't think he showed much in the ring, but to be honest, the segment wasn't designed to be anything more than an old school squash to help establish the character.

Am I seeing things or was Mike Rotunda one of the agents breaking up the Batista/Lashley/Finlay/Booker brawl on Smackdown?

That was indeed Rotunda, who is working as an agent for the company on at least a temporary basis.

With the WWE hiring veteran male wrestlers for the purpose of training younger wrestlers, are there plans on signing veteran female wrestlers Ivory and Nora Greenwald to help train the likes of Ashley Massaro, Krystal Marshall, Michele McCool and Candice Michelle?

It's a sound idea and makes sense, but I haven't heard of any ideas in that direction. I am not sure Greenwald would be interested in doing it, since she willing walked away from the company. Ivory is an interesting choice as well. I think she'd have a great aptitude for it, but whether the company would do it, remains to be seen. I don't believe it would be as big a priority for the Divas since their in-ring work is often secondary to their appearance.

I was thinking, weren't we all pre-warned by Vince McMahon about the new ECW on the Rise and Fall of ECW DVD? Vince said he called Paul when they got the TNN deal and said "Paul you realize that now you have to change".

In a way, I guess we were, although at the time of the DVD release, I don't believe anyone in the company could have even thought for a second it would lead to a relaunch of the new, even under WWE's new vision. It was likely McMahon giving his opinion on what someone needs to do when they have a national product and he's stuck to that with his version of Extreme Championship Wrestling.
