PWINSIDER Q & A: CHRIS JERICHO'S WWE RETURN, TAKER VS. EDGE, PPVS OVERSEAS, SHANE DOUGLAS IN WWE AND MORE

By Dave Scherer on 2006-09-27 10:00:00

I'm a huge fan and supporter of the site for a few years. My question to you relates to Shane Douglas. I know he's one of the few that has managed to burn the unburnable bridge to the WWE, but my question relates to his short WWE run. I would have thought if he kept his mouth shut and established himself a bit, he could've continued up the ranks, as he was a solid promo guy and decent worker. In your opinion, do you think he blew his chance w/the WWE by being too outspoken about the clique and impatient about his push? Was it also that he didn't want to work with Ahmed Johnson that led to his departure? Any chance that burnt bridge is being reconstructed to ECW when his TNA deal runs out?

I think what happened was he was used to being the top guy in ECW and went into the WWF and was shocked that he was no longer the big dog.  The lame Dean Douglas gimmick didn't help either.  When you add in that he didn't get along with the Kliq, who of course had all the power in the company backstage at the time, I think he made it a situation where he just couldn't coexist with them and made him miserable.  I say "made" because I agree with you, if he would have just gone in and took his early lumps, which happens a lot with new talent and certainly did when guys came over from another company back then, he would have rose up the ladder.  Instead, he didn't like his gimmick, didn't like who had the power in the locker room and he forced his way out of the company.  At this point, I really don't see what he brings to ECW even if there wasn't so much bad blood.

In his 'Bangin' with Ashley' interview on WWE.com, Chris Jericho claims he'll be coming back. How likely do you think it is that he'll ever return to wrestling in any capacity at all?

"Ever" is a word that leaves a lot of possibilities.  Here's what I think.  Jericho is happy away from wrestling.  I think if he can make a career in any other form of entertainment, there is pretty much no chance of him coming back to the ring full time.  Even if he can't make that career, he has a lot of money saved so I don't see him coming back to the rigors of the business after being away as long as he has.  What I could see happening is if he can't get into a more lucrative career, it wouldn't shock me to see him do the Mick Foley deal where he comes back for a limited time, and premium dollars, but not full time.

What do you think the chances are of an Undertaker-Edge match happening at Wrestlemania while they both remain undefeated at Wrestlemania? And, if said match were to happen, what do you think the chances would be of Edge coming out on top?

I don't see any reason to do that.  Taker is winding down his career.  Edge is a hot star.  Taker should win every Mania match for the rest of his career since he has won them all thus far and it's his legacy.  On the other hand, Edge should be in a title program, not do a job.  So, I don't see it happening and frankly, it shouldn't happen.

Is Taker a huge Draw? Did he draw good money for Vince, because I have a friend who keeps saying that taker was never a draw and he is only in  the main event because of his politics power.

Yes, he was most certainly a draw.  Your friend is wrong.  Even now, years after his peak, he gets as big a reaction as anyone in WWE.  He is one of the rare top guys that don't abuse his top guy power.  If he did, he would have a lot more title reigns.  He's just an honest, tell-it-like-he-sees-it guy.  I respect that.

I saw a clip for Summerslam when it was held at Wembley Stadium in London all those years ago. Do you think there's ever a chance a big PPV will be held in the United Kingdom ever again? It was a massive success, 90,000 thousand sell-out, albeit helped by the presence of the British Bulldog! Do you know when the question will appear on the site? or do you sometimes reply via email?

The problem with holding the show there is that WWE either has to run it on tape delay or start at 1 a.m. local time.  Neither one is palatable for WWE.  Obviously, the fear with running it on tape delay is that results will get out before the show and hurt the buyrate.  It's a valid fear.  On the other end, if the show starts at 1 a.m. and runs until four a.m. local time, there are serious concerns about the crowd coming and staying live.  So, I don't see there being much chance of it happening now, completely due to the time zone difference.
