CHRIS JERICHO RETURNS TO THE GROUNDLINGS IMPROV TROUPE

By Mike Johnson on 2006-09-16 10:00:00

Former WWE champion Chris Jericho performed last night with famous Los Angeles improv troupe the Groundlings. PWInsider.com received the following reports on the performance:

Fender sent the following::

The stage was set...literally.

The scene: The Historic Groundlings Theatre

The Show: Improv Comedy with the Groundlings alums and stars, with Y2J himself, Chris Jericho! The show included other comedians, such as Mindy Sterling, two others from MadTV, and newbies that will be somebody in the future.

The theatre was full, complete with regulars and newbies like me and my buddy. We came for Y2J, plain and simple. We laughed our asses off, even offering suggestions for the games/improv, one of which (members of a boy band writing a new album) was used by Y2J and his castmates.

Chris looked at home on stage, entertaining us with his unique style of comedy and his powerful presence. He played, amonst other characters, a blind boy band member, a roomie who loved RVD's particular brand of tobacco, First Mate Squeek on the USS Energetron, and an evil commercial real estate salesman. He looked eager to learn, and he laughed as loud as anyone in the theatre.

But, the best part was after the show. He walked outside to meet the people who stuck around to meet him after the show. He took a few minutes to talk to his castmates, but he made sure to sign everything handed to him, pose for pictures, shake hands and talk for a few minutes with each person who stood and waited. A class act in every respect. He signed my Fozzy album cover and stood for a picture.

An interesting sidenote: One of the people asked him why he had hosiptal wristbands on, and I overheard state that he and his wife had recently had twins and that they were still in hospital. Congrats, Chris! Thanks for a great show!

Carol Clark sent the following.....I went to see the Groundlings show tonight in Los Angeles, and once again Chris Jericho was part of the cast. This was an all star show, with many of the Groundlings alumni on hand, it was a great opportunity for Chris to shine with some off the all time comic greats including Larraine Newman, Phil Lamar, and Patrick Bristow. As always, Chris was included in some really funny skits that allowed him to stretch himself into many different ways. The best part was afterwards when he hung around to have meaningful conversations with everyone who stayed around to meet him. He's a very genuine individual, and it was a great time. He'll be there again this coming Thursday, September 21.
