PWINSIDER Q&A: MVP, KURT ANGLE DVD, BURIED ALIVE MATCH AND MORE

I was rereading the first Mick Foley Book "Have A Nice Day" after listening to Mikes' hotline on top 5 wrestling books. I found a quick interesting quote in the book that maybe Vince needs to read again. I'll type it out quick so you don't have to look it up (page 445 if you care) "Actually I believe it was Vince's admission in October that he wasn't always right that allowed World Wrestling Federation to truly excel. Brian Pillman had tragically been found dead in a Minneapolis motel room a day earlier. Vince called a meeting of all the guys to address Brian's death but had informed us that maybe time had passed him by and that some of the old formulas that had been successful for so long were simply outdated. He was a big enough man to shift responsibility to the wrestlers for much of their character development. That was really the meeting that did away with the ridiculous gimmicks and ushered in a new era of realistic human beings that people could actually relate to. This was more or less the birth of the Federation's attitude campaign." So after reading this and then going off what you guys report apparently the time that once passed Vince by has now been over taken again by a 60+ year old man? He seems to figure that he has a handle on things again when he is repeating the same tired old formulas. I mean Umanga? Can anyone else say Headshrinker of the 21st Century? He once openly admitted to the boys that he had lost touch, I think he needs to do it again. The question I have for you guys is will he? I mean did he only admit it then because WCW was stiff competition? Is that what its going to take for this to happen? I cant believe that no one else in his immediate circle doesn't see this, or are they all just to scared of Vince to actually tell him?

Will Vince McMahon admit he has "lost touch"?  Vince McMahon is going to headline the Unforgiven PPV this Sunday.  I think that answers your first question.  I definitely think competition is needed to make Vince realize that changes are overdue in some areas.  It is easy to be complacent when you are dominating the game.  As for his immediate circle, there are plenty of members who would rather "agree with the boss" and collect their paycheck, than disagree and possibly deal with Vince belittling them during an argument.

My first is how they do the Buried Alive match. Is there a trap door under on the side where they can crawl through? And how did they make Takers hand pop out of the ground that he had with Mankind, was it mechanic?

Yes, there's a trap door in the side that allows the wrestler to roll out before the mounds of dirt are dumped in the hole.  As for the Undertaker trick, if you watch carefully, you'll notice that where the hand pops out is nowhere near where the burial was done.  It was a separate compartment where someone with an Undertaker glove was able to stick his hand up through a layer of dirt to pull off the admittedly cool ending.

With Kurt Angle gone from WWE, do you see WWE making a DVD set with Kurt's best matches sometime in the near future?

In the near future?  I would say no.  Considering the current relationship (or lack of one) between them, I don't see WWE rushing to put together a DVD collection.  I do think at some point in the future, there will be a Kurt Angle collection, whether he ever returns to the ring or not.

Hey guys, I've got a couple of questions about finishers in the WWE. First, do you think Umaga would have a better chance of getting over as a top heel if he had a finisher that looked a little more devastating? That thumb spike seems like something out of the 80's. Also, do you know why CM Punk is using the slam/anaconda vice finisher instead of the Pepsi Plunge? Especially since everybody that watches the WWE knows that you can get out of any hold if you have a free hand you can throw a punch with. Finally, do you know why Carlito started using the backcracker as a finisher instead of that leg assisted spinning neckbreaker? It's hard to buy a move as a finisher that was previously used as a transitional move.

To answer your last question first, Carlito switched to the Backcracker because it was getting a big reaction from live crowds when he would do it.  It isn't the first time a "transitional move" has become a finisher.  Marty Jannetty's Rocker Dropper was a transitional move, as was Shawn Michaels' superkick, and later both became believeable finishers.  As for CM Punk, WWE wanted him to have a submission hold finisher, so he is using the Anaconda Vice.  Besides, I can't imagine WWE wanting him to use the Pepsi Plunge since it is very similar to Triple H's Pedigree (and I don't see Trips doing his off the ropes anytime soon).  As for the Spike being something out of the 80's, well, it is, however I don't see that as a negative.  As long as wrestlers sell the move as being devastating, the fans will accept it as so.

So this MVP guy, who admits he doesn't have a contract can sit in the front row, have the cameras focus on him for quite awhile, hop the barricade enter the ring and cut a promo, and have the cameras document his exit from the building. Does that mean I can do the same when WWE comes to town next month, cause I don't have a contract either.

Sure, go right ahead.  You'll then have the opportunity to meet several members of the security team and have a personal escort to the parking lot (if you're lucky).
