COMPLETE NEW JAPAN CUP 2016 FINALS COVERAGE

Welcome to the PWInsider's coverage of the New Japan Pro Wrestling New Japan Cup 2016 Finals, live from the Aomori Arena in Tokyo, Japan.

Match #1 - Singles Match: Jay White vs. David Finlay

The match begins with Finlay and White doing a little chain wrestling, Finlay gains the first advantage by working over the arm of White. Finlay continues wearing down White by holding him in a chin lock before landing a few elbow strikes, Finlay then takes the chance to slam White for a two count. White escapes the Finlay Roll before nailing Finlay with a standing drop kick, White then hits Finlay with some forearm stries and a back elbow strike. White waits for Finlay to stand in the corner before hitting him with a running European uppercut and a suplex, White then hits Finlay with a missile drop kick for a near fall. Finlay starts fighting back and he catches White with a small package for a two count, Finlay then hits an incoming White with a diving elbow strike. Finlay then crushes White with an avalanche and Finlay Roll for a near fall, Finlay sets up for the Boston Crab and he locks it in.

White is able to get to the ropes to break the hold after a long struggle, White recovers abd he crushes Finlay with forearm strikes. White then locks Finlay in the single leg crab, White transitions into the Boston crab. White then transitions to the Lion Tamer and Finlay taps out.

Winner: Jay White

Match #2 - Tag Team Match: Juice Robinson & Jushin “Thunder” Liger vs. Captain New Japan & Tiger Mask IV

This one kicks off with Captain overpowering Liger during the initial lock up, Liger then attempts to drop Captain with some shoulder tackles and he fails. Captain misses a tackle and Liger throws him out of the ring, Liger then hits Captain with a baseball slide drop kick before returning Captain to the ring. Robinson and Mask IV get tagged in and Robinson locks him in a headlock, Mask IV eventually nails Robinson with a series of kicks followed by a knee drop. Captain tags back in and he hits Robinson with a few punches, Captain misses the diving tackle again and Robinson crushes him with a senton for a near fall. Robinson nails Captain with a punch before tagging Liger back in, Liger then locks Captain in a modified octopus stretch. Captain eventually reaches the ropes to break the hold from Liger, Captain then hits both his opponents with a diving shoulder block before tagging Mask IV in.

Mask IV cleans house on both of his opponents before hitting Liger with a suicide dive, Mask IV then tosses Liger right into the barricade. Liger returns to the ring and he hits Mask IV with a tilt-a-whirl back breaker, Robinson and Captain tag in. Robinson quickly catches Captain with his patented series of jabs, Captain recovers quickly to catch Robinson with a uranage for a near fall. Captain goes to the top rope and he misses the follow up splash, Robinson makes him pay by hitting the avalanche and diving headbutt for a two count. Liger fights wit Mask IV outside of the ring, Robinson hits Captain with a side kick and he locks him in a camel clutch to force a submission.

Winners: Jushin “Thunder” Liger & Juice Robinson

Match #3 - Tag Team Match: Chaos (Yoshi-Hashi & Tomohiro Ishii) vs. Los Ingobernables (Evil & Bushi)

The next bout begins with Los Ingobernables attacking Chaos as they hit the ring, the brawl between all four competitors briefly spills out of the ring. Bushi then starts working over Yoshi-Hashi in the ring, Yoshi-Hashi fights back and he places Evil on the top rope before catching him with a drop kick. Bushi regains control for his team by hitting Yoshi-Hashi with a missile drop kick, Evil brings Yoshi-Hashi out of the ring to toss him into the barricade. Evil wraps the head of Yoshi-Hashi in a chair before throwing him into the ring post, Yoshi-Hashi is brought back into the ring so Bushi can choke him with a shirt. Evil tags in and he knocks Ishii off the ring apron, Evil then hits Yoshi-Hashi with a senton for a two count. Bushi tags back in and he locks Yoshi-Hashi in the STF, Yoshi-Hashi eventually gets to the ropes to release the hold. Yoshi-Hashi fights back by catching Bushi with a running neck breaker, Ishii tags in and he immediately catches Evil with a power slam.

Ishii brings Evil into the corner and he assaults him with a ton of strikes, Ishii follows that up by nailing Evil with a German suplex. Evil tries fighting back with forearm strikes and a roaring clothesline, Evil then crushes Ishii with a fisherman buster suplex for a near fall. Los Ingobernables hits Ishii with a series of double team moves for a near fall, Evil then hits an interfering Yoshi-Hashi with a side slam. Yoshi-Hashi starts fighting back and he drops Evil with a clothesline, Yoshi-Hashi then fights Bushi on the arena floor. Ishii clobbers Evil with clothesline in the ring for a near fall, Ishii then cracks Yoshi-Hashi with a few headbutts. Ishii looks for a clothesline and Bushi sprays him with mist in the eyes, Bushi then hits Yoshi-Hashi with a suicide dive. Evil then hits Ishii with an STF to get the three count.

Winners: Los Ingobernables (Evil & Bushi)

After the match, Los Ingobernables attacks Ishii while holding the ROH TV Championship.

Match #4 - NJPW New Japan Cup Semi-Finals: Tetsuya Naito vs. Toru Yano

This match begins with Yano hitting the ring and attacking Naito with a steel chair, Yano catches Naito with a roll up for a near fall. Yano wraps himself in the ropes to play mind games with Naito, Yano then rips the turnbuckle pad from the corner. The two wrestlers then exchange a series of atomic drops, Yano knocks Naito into the exposed turnbuckle before rolling him up twice for a few near falls. Yano then low blows Naito and rolls him up, but he accidentally takes out the referee as well while going for the pin. Naito nails Yano with a low blow and rolls him up to get the three count.

Winner: Tetsuya Naito

After the match, Tetsuya Naito attacks one of the young boys at ringside.

Match #5 - NJPW New Japan Cup Semi-Finals: Michael Elgin vs. Hirooki Goto

This next bout begins with Elgin overpowering Goto a few times, Goto tries knocking Elgin over with shoulder tackles and Elgin drops him with one instead. Elgin then cracks Goto with a few forearm strikes, Goto attacks Elgin with a few kicks before Elgin knocks him out of the ring with an inzaguri. Elgin follows Goto out of the ring and catches him with a forward roll from the ring apron, Elgin brings Goto back into the ring to get a near fall on a pin attempt. Elgin slams Goto before catching him with a slingshot splash for a two count, the two wrestlers meet in the center of the ring and counter each others suplex attempts. Elgin eventually cracks Goto with a forearm strike before crushing him with a delayed verticle suplex for a two count, the two again meet in the center of the ring to exchange some forearm strikes. Elgin backs Goto into the corner while bashing him with forearm strikes, Elgin misses a charge into the corner and Goto cracks him with a spin kick.

Goto then catches Elgin with a suplex for a near fall, Elgin escapes a hold from Goto and the two exchange some clotheslines. The exchange ends when Elgin nails Goto with some German suplexes, Elgin then hits Goto with a dragon suplex for a near fall. Elgin picks up Goto to hit him with a series of clotheslines, Goto counters the last clothesline attempt to hit Elgin with his finisher for the two count. Elgin rolls out of the ring and Goto follows him so they can battle on the ring apron, Elgin gets in the ring first and he suplexes Goto back into the ring for a near fall. Elgin sets up and crushes Goto with a buckle bomb, Goto escapes the secodn attempt to lock Elgin in the rear naked choke. Elgin easily escapes and Goto rolls him up from out of nowhere to get the three count.

Winner: Hirooki Goto

Match #6 - Tag Team Match: Ryusuke Taguchi & Katusyori Shibata vs. TenCozy (Hiroyoshi Tenzan & Satoshi Kojima)

This bout will start off with Kojima and Shibata engaging in a forearm strike exchange, Kojima then drops Shibata with a pair of shoulder tackles. Shibata backs Kojima in the corner and Tenzan sneaks a tag in, Shibata then hits Kojima with a cheap shot before tagging Taguchi in. Taguchi then teases a few hip attacks against an agitated Tenzan, Tenzan then literally kicks the butt of Taguchi. Tenzan then starts attacking Taguchi with a bunch of double chops to the shoulder blades, Taguchi recovers and hits a charging Tenzan with a few hip attacks. Tenzan gets back in the match quickly by nailing Taguchi with a spin kick, TenCozy then double teams Taguchin with a bunch of double team maneuvers before getting a two count pin. Kojima then lays out Taguchi with the neck breaker and some follow up chops, TenCozy then connects with a double shoulder tackle on taguchi for a two count.

Tenzan tosses Taguchi into the corner before nailing him with a running clothesline and a suplex as well, Taguchi tries fighting back and he finally does after hitting Tenzan with a hip attack. Shibata gets the tag and he instantly cleans house on TenCozy, Shibata then hits Tenzan with a diving drop kick in the corner. Shibata goes back to attacking Kojima with cheap shots as he awaits a tag, Kojima finally gets tagged in and he assaults Shibata with chops in the corner. Shibata and Kojima just exchange a plethora of strikes in the corner, Kojima then hits Shibata with an ace crusher after eating a big boot to the face. Shibata recovers and he catches a charging Kojima with an STF, Taguchi gets the tag and he attacks Kojima with his hip attacks. Taguchi goes for the triple suplexes and Kojima counters with a brain buster for the near fall, RTenCozy then hits Shibata with a double flap jack. Taguchi then hits both members of TenCozy with flying hip attacks, Kojima then lays out Taguchi with a lariat for the three count.

Winners: TenCozy (Satoshi Kojima & Hiroyoshi Tenzan)

After the match, Katsuyori Shibata and Satoshi Kojima get physical, it ends with Kojima lays out Shibata with a lariat.

Match #7 - Tag Team Match: Manabu Nakanishi & Yuji Nagata vs. Chaos (Kazuchika Okada & Kazushi Sakuraba)

The match kicks off with Nagata and Okada working over each others arm, Sakuraba tags in and he starts grappling with Nagata. Nakanishi tags in and he chops away at Sakuraba after tying him up in the ropes, Sakuraba starts attacking Nakanishi with leg kicks before grappling with him some more. Okada tags back in and Nakanishi backs him into the corner before tagging Nagata in, Okada then attacks Nagata with a bunch of forearm strikes. Nagata recovers quickly to hit Okada with a knee lift that is followed by a series of kicks, Sakuraba interferes and he holds Nagata in a rear naked choke. Okada then actches a downed Nagata with a slingshot swanton bomb, Sakuraba tags in and he attacks Nagata with a few kicks before applying the chin lock. Okada tags back in and he hits Nagata with a double suplex, Sakuraba tags back in and he attacks Nagata with more kicks.

Nagata fights back by nailing Sakuraba with an exploder suplex, Okada gets the tag and Nagata lays him out with a spin kick. Nakanishi gets the tag and he instantly attacks Sakuraba with forearm strikes and a knee drop, Nakanishi looks for a German suplex and Sakuraba rolls for a heel hook as Nakanishi grabs the ropes. Okada tags back in and he nails Nakanishi with a DDT, Okada then waits for Nakanishi to stand up before catching him with a running European uppercut. Nakanishi and Nagata recover to attack both of their opponents with strikes in the corners, Nakanishi catches Okada with a lariat for the near fall. Nagata then locks Sakuraba in the arm bar as Nakanishi catches Okada with a torture rack bomb for a near fall. Nakanishi then hits Okada with a release German suplex for the near fall, Sakuraba then hits Nagata with a suicide dive. Okada looks for the Rain maker and Nakanishi nails him with shots to the throat, Okada recovers by hitting Nakanishi with a drop kick and top rope elbow drop. Okada cracks Nakanishi with the Rain maker to get the three count.

Winners: Chaos (Kazuchika Okada & Kazushi Sakuraba)

Match #8 - Six Man Tag Team Match: Hiroshi Tanahashi, Togi Makabe & Tomoaki Homna vs. Bullet Club (Yujiro Takahashi, Tama Tonga & Bad Luck Fale)

This bout begins with an all out brawl between all six competitors, Tanahashi and Makabe nails the Bullet Club members with flying forearms that send them all out of the ring. Things settle down as Homma starts working over Takahashi, Homna sits Takahashi down before catching him with a running neck breaker. Fale tries interfering and Takahashi runs into him instead of hitting Homna, Homna goes for the headbutt and Takahashi gets out of the way. All six competitors brawl outside of the ring again, Takahashi then attacks Homna with a chair as Tonga attacks Tanahashi with a camera. Homna beats the twenty count into the ring after fighting with Tonga in the aisle, Fale tags in and he just stands on a hurt Homna. Homna tries fighting back and Bullet Club stops his momentum quickly, Tonga tags in and he juts chokes Homna with his bare hands.

Tonga brings Homna into the corner and he attacks him with shoulder thrusts and a headbutt, Fale tags in and he just chokes Homna. Takahashi gets the tag and Homna catches him with a delayed suplex, Makabe gets the tag and he cleans house on all the members of Bullet Club. Makabe mounts Takahashi in the corner before assaulting him with strikes. Takahashi tries fighting backa nd Makabe drops him with a clothesline, Takahashi trips up Makabe before catching him with a low drop kick. Fale tags in and he misses the avalanche in the corner, Tanahashi tags back in and he goes right to work on Fale. Tanahashi tries slamming Fale and he does after a few attempts, Tanahashi sets up for the frog splash and Takahashi crotches him in the corner. Fale goes for his finisher and Tnahashi counters with the sling blade, Homna gets the tag and he attacks all the members of Bullet Club.

Homna then hits Tonga with a bulldog that is followed by a falling headbutt, Tonga recovers and he triple teams Homna with the rest of Bullet Club. Tonga then catches Homna with a flapjack for a near fall, Tonga goes for his finisher on Homna and Makabe blocks it by clotheslining him. Tanahashi does a dive to the outside of the ring that takes out Fale and Takahashi, Homna then cracks Tonga with a few headbutt variations. Homna goes for the diving headbutt, but Tonga catches him with an ace crusher and his double under hook DDT to get the three count.

Winners: Bullet Club (Yujiro Takahashi, Tama Tonga & Bad Luck Fale)

After the match, Bullet Club lays waste to everybody in the ring, Tonga grabs the microphone to proclaim that this is the new era of the Bullet Club.

Main Event - NJPW New Japan Cup Finals: Tetsuya Naito vs. Hirooki Goto

The main event begins with Goto jumping Naito as Naito was messing with him, Goto then drops Naito with a few hip tosses. Goto quickly kicks Naito in the back before locking him in the chin lock, Naito gets to the ropes to release the hold and Goto makes him pay with a few stomps. Goto starts attacking Naito right away with forearm strikes, but Bushi interferes and that allows Naito to get the upper hand. Goto is knocked out of the ring and Naito follow shim out there, Naito then tosses Goto right into the barricade. Bushi interferes again by tossing Goto right into the barricade on his own, Bushi then tosses Goto into the ring so Naito can continue to work him over. Naito places Goto in the Tree Of Woe position in the corner, Bushi again interferes by choking Goto with his shirt. Goto briefly recovers until Naito drops him with a neck breaker, Naito then cracks a seated Goto with a drop kick to the face for a two count.

Naito decides to slow things down further by locking Goto in the chin lock, Goto breaks free and he levels Naito with a lariat afterwards. Goto picks up Naito and he cracks him with some forearm strikes and another lariat, Goto waits for Naito to stand in the corner before catching him with a spin kick. Goto then hits Naito with a side suplex to get a two count, Naito recovers and he catches Goto with a series of drop kicks in the corner. Naito waits for Goto to stand so he can hit him with a springboard drop kick, Naito then hits Goto with a German suplex for a two count. Naito then places Goto on the top rope and he follows him up there, Goto breaks free and he has a striking exchange with Naito on the top rope. Goto eventually catches Naito with a top rope suplex, Goto then waits to crush Naito with a top rope elbow drop for a two count, Goto goes for his finisher and Naito escapes before Goto catches him in a modified back breaker.

Goto then hits Naito with his finisher and he looks for a follow up suplex, Naito counters that though and he hits Goto with a tornado DDT. The two wrestlers start exchanging forearm strikes in the center of the ring, Naito then rocks Goto with an inzaguri that is followed by a flying forearm strike. Naito then places Goto on the top rope to hit him with a top rope hurricarana for the near fall, Goto gets up and Naito catches him with a pump handle reverse DDT for another two count. Naito goes for his finisher and Goto actually counters it into his own finisher, Goto gets up first and he places Naito on the top rope before following him up there. Goto then hits Naito with the top rope version of his finisher for a near fall, Naito escapes a suplex from Goto and Goto cracks him with a headbutt. Goto then kicks a recovering Naito before nailing him with a super side effect for another near fall.

Goto is starting to get frustrated as Evil makes his way towards the ringside area, Evil interferes in the match as Bushi distracts the referee. Goto gets rid of Evil by hitting him with his finisher, Naito counters a suplex from Goto into a reverse DDT. The two wrestlers get to their knees and they start exchanging some strikes, the two then make it to their feet and the striking exchange continues. Naito eats a headbutt from Goto before hitting Goto with his finisher to get the three count.

Winner: Tetsuya Naito, your NJPW New Japan Cup ‘16 Tournament Winner

After the match, Evil and Bushi attack Hirooki Goto on the arena floor as the trophy is being presented to a victorious Tetsuya Naito. Naito receives the trophy before getting the microphone, Naito says that he is formally challenging Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship. Evil and Bushi throw Goto back into the ring as Naito finishes his speech, Los Ingobernables continue beating up Goto until Kazuchika Okada makes the save with Tomohiro Ishii. Okada offers his hand to Goto again and Goto finally shakes it, Okada grabs the microphone and says something to Naito. The champion and the challenger go face to face before the champion exits the ring, Naito gets the miscrophone again and he says something to Okada.
