PWINSIDER Q&A: WWE NOT ACKNOWLEDGING THEIR CPL. KIRCHNER ERROR, WHY STING BECAME THE 'CROW', MVP, COMBAT ZONE WRESTLING & MORE

By Mike Johnson on 2006-10-22 13:08:00

I'm wondering if you could shed some light on this for me...I got into wrestling back in the late '90s because of the black and white Sting. I know the story somewhat as to what led to him becoming the "Crow Sting", but what I'm not sure about is if the entire hiatus/gimmick change was a work, or if he truly was offended and left WCW, but later agreed to return, and the resulting storyline and gimmick change was created, playing off of how he left the company.

The Sting situation was a complete storyline work. The new look was suggested by Scott Hall and it was all done as a way to build up the suspense and intrigue of Sting returning to save World Championship Wrestling. From a weekly storyline standpoint, it was awesome and one of the best things WCW ever did. Sadly, the climax of it at Starrcade '97 was a flop and WCW and Sting were never as strong again.

was reading about the erroneous reports of Cpl. Kirchner's death. I read that years ago Kirchner assaulted Vince McMahon after his release in the 80's. McMahon, when he did commentary, sometimes referred to him as Mike Kirchner, so he would obviously know that this Thomas Spear was not Kirchner. Kirchner's mother contacted WWE and alerted them to the error. Do you think McMahon doesn't bother to read his own website or does he hold a grudge against Kirchner and doesn't care if he's reported dead or alive?

I don't believe Kirchner was ever involved in a physical incident with Vince McMahon. You may be thinking of Kevin Wacholz, who portrayed Nailz in the WWF, who did go after McMahon. I am at a loss as to why WWE hasn't issued an apology and correction. To be blunt, they should have been the first ones to do so, because all of the stories online about Kirchner were attributed to their source. WWE wants their audience to come to them for the news, and by treating their readers with blatant disrespect by not correcting a huge error, is pathetic in my opinion.

Just watching an old WWF DVD and a thought just struck me - Where's Kevin Kelly these days?

Kevin Kelly still lives in the Northeast and from time to time does indy appearances and commentary, but is making a living outside of the business.

Is MVP WWE's version of TNA's Primetime Elix Skipper?

Beyond the finisher, I don't see any real comparison between the two, so not in my opinion.

I got a couple of CZW tapes and saw one match with a string trimmer being used. I couldn't tell but was the trimmer gimmicked in any way? I recently had an accident with one and took a pretty good piece of meat out of my leg and was just wondering if the trimmer was real or rigged up somehow?

When Combat Zone Wrestling uses the weedwhackers, they aren't gimmicked.
