SAUDI ARABIA WANTS THE ROYAL RUMBLE OR WRESTLEMANIA STAGED IN THEIR COUNTRY AS PART OF NEW DEAL TO BE ANNOUNCED SHORTLY

By Mike Johnson on 2024-05-08 10:34:00

ESPN's Mike Coppinger ran a story this morning with quotes from Turki Alalshikh, the chairman of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority, noting that there was a signing of a "strategic agreement" between Riyadh Season and MMA powerhouse UFC that extends their partnership, which began after WWE and UFC were merged under the same corporate ownership of TKO Group Holdings.

Interestingly, in the article, it was noted:

"Alalshikh said an enhancement to Saudi Arabia's existing agreement with WWE will be announced later this month. Specifically, Alalshikh is looking to bring January's annual Royal Rumble or WWE's top event, WrestleMania, to Saudi Arabia."

Neither event has ever been held outside of North America and obviously, bringing such a massive cornerstone show to Saudi Arabia would not be without its share of criticism and controversy.

However, it would certainly bring WWE a massive, massive origination fee to stage one of those events there.   Given that the company is vastly seeking out as many ways to maximize revenue streams as possible, one can't discount the possibility they would at least seek to discover what sort of windfall they could get out of Mania or Rumble in The Middle East.

WWE held a "Greatest Royal Rumble" event several years back in the infancy of their relationship with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
